Vivaldi's Four Seasons
Forged through the Four Seasons, Perform Your Unique World-class University Concerto
Empowering Greater Potential for Discovery through Year-round Seasonal Learning
At Vivaldi International Academy, "The Four Seasons" is not just a world-renowned musical masterpiece; it is the hallmark of our innovative academic calendar. While some American universities and experimental education institutions in Taiwan also utilize a Quarter System, the essence of Vivaldi’s "Four Seasons" offers a truly distinctive educational depth.
Our academic year is divided sequentially into four quarters—Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer—each lasting ten weeks. This design provides exceptional curriculum flexibility, allowing students to take a wider variety of courses within a single year and significantly increasing their exposure to cross-disciplinary knowledge. More importantly, a ten-week term is the perfect length fora complete project-based learning cycle—spanning from initial engagement and in-depth inquiry to the final concrete output. This effectively breaks the learning fatigue often associated with traditional long semesters, making the learning process far more efficient. Furthermore, this short-cycle design grants children more room for exploration. If a particular course isn't the right fit, they can seamlessly transition to new subjects and fresh perspectives after ten weeks, ensuring that their learning experience always remains dynamic and engaging.
Four Seasons Journey · Vibrant Learning
Spring Quarter — Exploration & Awakening
Theme: The Rhythm of Awakening Spring brings growth, ambient natural sounds, and dynamic energy—making it the perfect season for young learners to dive into the science of sound waves and life cycles.
- NGSS (Science): Exploring life cycles of flora and fauna; learning how vibrations generate sound waves.
- CCSS (English & Math): Reading scientific informational texts; tracking and graphing plant growth over time.
- Music & Arts: Feeling rhythm and frequency; upcycling household materials into custom instruments; mimicking nature's soundscape.
【10-Week Project Highlight】: "Voice of Spring" Nature Concert
Campus Field Work: Students collaborate in teams to observe campus wildlife and log their findings in an English nature journal.
Hands-on STEAM Crafting: Utilizing science principles of acoustic vibration, students design and build unique percussion instruments from recycled items.
Culminating Performance: A live showcase where students perform original rhythm pieces—evoking sprouting seeds or gentle spring rain—accompanied by English poetry recitations.
Summer Quarter — Momentum & Application
Theme: Midsummer Light & Shadow Theater Summer is a season of bright sunlight and boundless student energy! We channel this vibrant momentum into hands-on explorations of light, shadow, force, and motion, encouraging children to step out of their comfort zones and express themselves boldly on stage.
- NGSS (Science): Investigating how light travels, reflects, and casts shadows; experimenting with the physics of forces and motion (pushes, pulls, and friction).
- CCSS (English & Math): Narrative writing through scriptwriting, focusing on character dialogue and plot progression; applying geometry and angles to calculate stage lighting effects.
- Music & Arts: Exploring the brisk Allegro tempo and passionate musical emotions; practicing physical expression, stage blocking, and the ancient art of shadow puppetry.
【10-Week Project Highlight】: English Shadow Puppet Premiere
Collaborative Scriptwriting: Students team up to brainstorm and write an original English short play centered on "The Chase of Light and Shadow."
STEAM Puppetry Design: Utilizing math and geometry, students craft custom shadow puppets and calculate the perfect lighting angles to create striking silhouettes and visual effects on the screen.
Culminating Performance: A live, all-English shadow puppet show, accompanied by dynamic classical or modern music chosen by the students to set the perfect mood.
Autumn Quarter — Deepening & Reflection
Theme: Variations of Climate & Emotions With the crisp and calming atmosphere of autumn, it’s the perfect time for deep thinking and emotional awareness. This quarter challenges students to investigate the pressing realities of our changing environment, while also discovering how to express nuanced emotions through the power of words and music.
- NGSS (Science): Investigating global weather patterns, the real-world impacts of climate change, and the intricate balance of Earth's water cycle.
- CCSS (English & Math): Mastering Persuasive Writing to advocate for environmental action; interpreting real-world climate data and calculating statistical mean and variance.
- Music & Arts: Exploring the emotional shifts between major and minor keys; discovering musical "variations"; and learning to score music that evokes empathy, urgency, and peace.
【10-Week Project Highlight】: Climate Action News Network Journalistic Investigation:
Acting as "Special Climate Correspondents," students dive into data surrounding extreme weather events to write a persuasive, broadcast-ready English news script.
Audio Engineering & Emotion: Students curate or compose an impactful musical soundtrack designed to make the audience feel the urgency of global climate issues.
Culminating Performance: Lights, camera, action! In a simulated news studio, students look directly into the lens and deliver a professional, all-English news report, honing their on-camera confidence and public speaking skills.
Winter Quarter — Synthesis & Performance
Theme: Symphony of the Starry Sky The long, dark nights of winter are perfect for stargazing and coming together to share in gratitude. As the grand finale of the school year, this season highlights the power of teamwork and spectacular cross-disciplinary integration.
- NGSS (Science): Exploring the cosmos, understanding star and constellation formations, and investigating the physics of Earth's rotation and orbit.
- CCSS (English & Math): Structuring and presenting comprehensive Research Projects; applying coordinate systems and spatial logic to map the stars.
- Music & Arts: Mastering vocal harmony and choral singing; diving into set design, stage blocking, and full-scale theatrical production.
【10-Week Project Highlight】: "Starry Winter Night" Original Musical Collaborative Theatrical Production:
The entire class or grade level teams up to brainstorm, plan, and produce an original English musical themed around "Cosmic Exploration" or "The Birth of a New Star."
Curriculum Synthesis: The script cleverly weaves together the vocabulary words and scientific principles the children have mastered over the previous three seasons.
Culminating Performance: A spectacular "Winter Festival of Learning." Stepping out of their comfort zones and onto the big stage, students will seamlessly combine English dialogue, stage movement, choral harmonies, and solo singing. More than just an academic showcase, this is a powerful rite of passage—a "self-discovery" ritual where children conquer their stage fright and radiate self-confidence.
