Physical Education & Sports Curriculum

Health is the foundational '1'; without it, everything else is a '0'.

Vivaldi International Academy offers a diverse range of athletic programs, with Swimming designated as a mandatory core requirement.

For all other activities, whether team ball sports or individual track and field events, we provide professional coaching to guide our students.

Our Physical Education curriculum is designed with reference to the National PE Standards established by the U.S. SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators). While the Common Core State Standards primarily target Language Arts and Mathematics, educational frameworks across the U.S. typically extend this rigorous logic to physical education, emphasizing "Movement Literacy" and "Tactical Thinking." Physical education is not merely physical training; it is a practical arena for developing the brain's Executive Function and applied Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).

Curriculum Progression (G1 – G6)

Phase 1: Foundational Motor Patterns & Spatial Awareness (Grade 1 – Grade 2)

Learning Objectives: Develop foundational Locomotor Skills and establish an initial perception of space, speed, and force.

  1. Curriculum Content:
  2. Locomotor Skills: Practicing walking, running, jumping, leaping, galloping, and side-sliding.
  3. Stability/Non-Locomotor Skills: Single-leg balancing, walking on a balance beam, and foundational gymnastics tumbling.
  4. Spatial Awareness: Practicing moving safely within "general space" and "personal space" without colliding with others.
  5. Foundational Ball Handling: Practicing tossing and catching lightweight balls, and single-handed ball control.
  6. Expected Outcomes: Students can fluidly transition between different modes of movement, possess a foundational sense of physical balance, and strictly follow P.E. safety instructions.

Phase 2: Manipulative Skills & Introduction to Teamwork (Grade 3 – Grade 4)

Learning Objectives: Master specific Manipulative Skills and begin understanding simple game rules and team strategies.

  1. Curriculum Content:
  2. Precision Ball Control: Dribbling a basketball through obstacles, dribbling a soccer ball, and handball passing/catching.
  3. Striking and Volleying: Using rackets (table tennis/badminton) or bats to practice hand-eye coordination.
  4. Fitness Components: Introducing the concepts of cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength.
  5. Team Communication: Practicing the offensive logic that "passing is faster than dribbling" during small-group scrimmages.
  6. Expected Outcomes: Students can accurately pass the ball to a target direction, clearly understand the concepts of "offense" and "defense" in a game setting, and demonstrate strong sportsmanship.

Phase 3: Tactical Application & Personal Fitness Management (Grade 5 – Grade 6)

Learning Objectives: Apply complex tactics to solve in-game problems and build the capacity for self-directed, lifelong physical fitness planning.

  1. Curriculum Content:
  2. Tactical Thinking: Learning how to "Create Space" on the field and "intercept passing lanes."
  3. In-Depth Sports Exploration: Engaging in standard-rule basketball, soccer, volleyball, or track and field competitions.
  4. Fitness Monitoring: Learning to measure heart rate, understanding the impact of "exercise intensity" on health, and setting personal fitness goals.
  5. Leadership Training: Rotating roles as referees, team captains, or assistant coaches to learn how to motivate teammates.
  6. Expected Outcomes: Students can analyze opponents' weaknesses to adjust tactics, independently design a simple personal fitness plan, and possess the emotional resilience required to handle both victory and defeat gracefully.
