Embracing Individual Differences and Guiding Children as They Steadily Advance in Their Learning Journey
Wings of Inclusion: Special Education and Campus Counseling Support Program
Within the framework of experimental education, when supporting students with disabilities or Special Educational Needs (SEN), our goal is not to make them "normal." Instead, through structured scaffolding and Individualized Education Programs (IEP), we empower them to find their own unique niche within Vivaldi's interdisciplinary environment. I.
Guiding Principles: From "Inclusion" to "Belonging"
According to Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development, the developmental pace of SEN students may differ from their peers, but their process of "equilibration" remains exactly the same. Vivaldi views SEN students as an integral part of our diverse campus ecosystem, emphasizing a "Zero Reject" policy and the "Least Restrictive Environment" (LRE).
II. Professional Support Structure
- IEP Task Force: Composed of the Director of Student Affairs, special education teachers, homeroom teachers, parents, and related professionals (such as occupational therapists).
- Dedicated Mentorship System: Matching each SEN student with a highly empathetic "Guardian Angel" teacher to provide individualized guidance.
- Peer Buddies Program: Selecting responsible upper-grade students to serve as peer leaders, assisting SEN students with social integration and daily interactions.
III. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP): From Admission to Assessment
Stages | Procedures | Our Process |
|---|---|---|
Admission Transition Phase | Initial Consultation | Conduct preliminary interviews with parents to review the student's medical history, evaluation reports, and past school adaptation experiences. |
Environment Preparation Phase | Universal Design for Learning (UDL) | Adapt classroom layouts and traffic flow, and implement accommodations such as noise-reduction equipment or visual cue systems to ensure a highly accessible learning environment. |
Plan Development Phase | IEP Meetings | Convene an Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting within the first month of the school year to establish clear, customized learning goals. |
Continuous Support Phase | Regular Monitoring | Conduct quarterly assessments of the student's academic progress and psychological well-being, flexibly adjusting the instructional scaffolding to meet their evolving needs. |
Transition & Assessment Phase | Graduation Transition | For upper-grade SEN students, proactively evaluate and design alternative options or reduced-stress models for the 10-week overseas study program to ensure a smooth and supportive graduation transition. |
Professional Counseling & Emotional Safe Spaces
- "Calm-down Corner" (寧靜盒子): Establishing dedicated sensory relaxation spaces in quiet corners of the campus. When students experience emotional or sensory overload, they can use these safe havens to self-regulate and find peace.
- Podcast Narrative Therapy (Podcast 敘事治療): Utilizing the school's broadcasting studio to encourage SEN (Special Educational Needs) students to record their inner thoughts and stories. Through the power of "audio storytelling," they can build self-identity and self-advocacy.
- Parent Support Salons (家長支持沙龍): Regularly hosting seminars and gatherings for parents of SEN students. These salons are designed to alleviate the pressures of parenting and forge a strong, supportive foundation of home-school collaboration.
VI. Expected Outcomes & Social Value
- For SEN Students: Empowering them to learn alongside their peers and gain a profound sense of achievement in their areas of strength—such as art or science—thereby building genuine self-confidence.
- For General Students: Cultivating a deep respect for differences, altruistic behavior, and empathy—traits that are absolutely indispensable for the leaders of tomorrow.
- For the School: Realizing the true vision of "Holistic Education" and deepening Vivaldi's brand resonance and leadership within the experimental education community.
